Music: Songwriting: As I Drove Away

As I Drove Away - James Brynildsen © December 1998

I saw the morning star, as I drove away

I'd love to know where you are

As my head begins to clear, and the miles pass

"I always thought that we would last"

Driving down the road, without you by my side,

Singing our favorite songs

I wonder who, I wondered how

I wonder where we went wrong

We crossed the state line, never meant a thing

I used to think that you were mine

I thought I could, teach you right and wrong

"How was I so far from home?"

Engine noise, cool wind in our hair

You're never far from sight

How could we fail, how could I know

"Why do we still fight?"

I made our life sweet hell, then you went away

Why don't I understand

Air around me's filled,  with seven pains

"I am the only one to blame."

Driving down the road, without you by my side,

You're never out of my mind

How could I fail, how could I know

How could I be so blind

Driving down the road, without you by my side,

Singing our favorite songs

I wonder who, I wondered how

I wonder where we went wrong

I saw the morning star, as I drove away

I saw the morning star, as I drove away

I saw the morning star, as I drove away

 As I drove away

I'd love to know where you are
